The Awards:
The
Stoked Awards honors the achievements of individuals who embody the
mission of Stoked Mentoring. The individuals have been selected for
their commitment to Stoked, their community, and have acheived a high
level of success in their personal and professional careers. All of
these individuals are chosen because they are and can be a model of
success within the Stoked community.
About Stoked:
Stoked
Mentoring is a youth development program that utilizes the power of
non-traditional sports and mentoring to create successful teens. Our
1-year comprehensive program uses the core board sports (snowboarding,
skateboarding, and surfing) combined with mentoring to give youth
necessary life skills to succeed.
Stoked’s mission is
to develop Successful Teens with Opportunity, Knowledge, Experience,
and Determination through action sports and mentoring. Founder Steve
Larosiliere, along with Co-founder, Sal Masekela believed that the
courage and perseverance needed to learn action sports would be an
ideal way to teach those life skills to at –risk and disadvantaged
youth. Combining life lessons with the power of mentoring and a
supportive community, Stoked Mentoring was born. Through Stoked, teens
gain a supportive, encouraging mentor along with a team of people
determined to see them succeed. By introducing mentoring pairs to
action sports, the very things many of us were warned against are now
creating a positive environment and a foundation for teens.
